Mahjongg is a classic puzzle game where the goal is to clear all tiles from the table by matching pairs of identical tiles. The game is played on a virtual board with multiple layers of tiles arranged in various patterns. Some tiles are stacked, some stand alone, and some are hidden. Each game is unique due to the endless tile layouts available from the start.

How to Play Mahjongg (Online)

Your objective is to clear the virtual board of all tiles by matching up pairs. When you find two tiles with the same pattern, click on one and then on the matching one to make them disappear from the board.

There are four tiles for each character, except for the flowers and seasons, which are unique tiles. Tiles with an exact match must be paired with another tile of the same pattern. Flowers can be matched with any flower, and seasons can be paired with any season.

Each tile features a specific character or symbol, and you need to select two available tiles with the same character to remove them from the board. The game becomes tricky when tiles are "locked," meaning a tile is sandwiched between two others. A tile is considered "free" if it has no tile on top of it, and at least one of its sides is not blocked.

Note: If you've never played before, Level 1 may be challenging. I tried Level 1—the Very Easy level—and couldn't finish on my first attempt! Don't get discouraged. It will become easier.

The game ends when all tiles have been removed from the board, or when no more moves are possible.

Tip

Focus on free tiles rather than matches. You can't match locked tiles, so trying to find pairs right away is a waste of time.
